If elected The Shooters, Fishers & Farmers Party will implement a program where farmers and growers of Tasmania will be able to deliver so called “seconds” to credible agencies like 2nd Bite Devonport who in turn with their current processing facility, can turn this “waste” into food for our communities state-wide.

Farmers participating in this program will be able to receive rebates on high energy costs, transport, offsetting high irrigation fees and also extended State rebate fees on diesel fuel, to ensure they will not lose money.

SFFP welcomes the recent announcement of a contribution to the 2nd Bite Program in Devonport, however we believe it does not go far enough in promoting Primary Producers to donate unwanted, but otherwise quality produce. Incentives should be enacted to promote and grow our policy.

This will be a cost negative structure where farmers who having grown quality produce can at least recoup costs of production, labour and transport costs rather than leaving tonnes of quality product to be dumped and wasted.

SFFP Tasmania Policy will address several issues, support local community organisations, assists local farmers move their produce, will enhance local work skills and the rural sector and wider community will benefit by providing Tasmanian quality produce to local Tasmanians.
