The new Council met officially for the first time today at a Special Meeting to appoint Aldermen to committees and other bodies. Glenorchy City Council Mayor Kristie Johnston said the atmosphere after the Special Meeting was very upbeat and vibrant with many community members in attendance to meet the new Aldermen. “Feedback was very positive from the gallery with many congratulating each Alderman on their new election to Council and their appointment to committees,” she said. “We have a thoroughly modern Council now who is ready to tackle challenges of the future and work on issues that need good management. We feel cohesive and ready to work hard for this community. “We are a much younger Council this time with many first-timers who are willing to learn and six females from diverse backgrounds. I’m enjoying the vibrant feel this new Council is bringing and this is beginning to filter through to staff members as well. Appointments today were: Glenorchy Planning Authority – Mayor Johnston as Chair, Deputy Mayor Stevenson and Aldermen Dunsby, Sims and Thomas. General Manager’s Performance Review Committee – Mayor Johnston as Chair, Deputy Mayor Stevenson and Alderman Richardson. Audit Panel – Deputy Mayor Stevenson and Alderman Bull.
