T4T-Tasmanians 4 Tasmania would like to announce our policies that we have to date. Other policies will follow shortly.
FISH FARMS
T4T proposes a moratorium on any further expansion of fish farms in Tasmania and that a public inquiry is held into the operation and practices of the industry.
Public Transport
We will reintroduce passenger rail to not only Hobart’s Northern Suburbs, but to other areas of Tasmania. We will repair and realign the perway and where necessary replace train lines including, but not limited to, National Park, North East Rail line etc.
Heritage trains will be permitted to utilise the rails to provide Tourism based Trains.
Trams will be re-introduced into the inner Hobart area travelling to Taroona/Sandy Bay, South Hobart (Cascade Brewery), West Hobart, North Hobart/Lenah Valley.
Bus mall to be relocated to new Transport Hub.
Ferry services to be reintroduced to Hobart.
Macquarie Point
Macquarie Point will be turned into a Transport Hub, servicing Trains, Trams and Buses.
This is an extremely important project for Hobart’s future transport needs for at least the next 30-50 years.
It will provide transport options “right at the door” for the more than 120 cruise ships that berth at Hobart each year, and Hobart with a public transport facility second to none. It is extremely important that this opportunity is not lost, because we will never get it back again.
L and P Plate Drivers
We propose that L and P plate drivers are restricted to non turbo motor vehicles with an engine capacity no greater than 1600cc’s.
Learner Drivers will be restricted to only have an instructor in the car while they are driving. Learner drivers are just that, learners, and we don’t believe that they should have any distractions in the car while learning to drive, or be responsible for peoples lives while learning.
P Plate drivers will only be required to be on P plates for two years (if they haven’t learnt to drive adequately in this time one might think there is an issue there).
Work exemptions may be issued for P plate drivers that are required to driver larger capacity vehicles for their employment.
International/Foreign Drivers
Rental Car companies that hire cars to people driving on a Foreign/International licence will be required to have a sign on the rear of the rental vehicle stating that they are a foreign/international driver. This will help local people identify these drivers and help and assist them where necessary, and treat them with caution on the roads.
Poker Machines
T4T’s proposal for poker machines is as follows.
Poker machines to be removed from Hotels and returned to the Casinos.
Registered Clubs (RSL’S, Sporting and Social) may apply to have poker machines which will be limited to location and membership of the clubs. This will allow profits from poker machines to go back to community via the clubs. There will be employment opportunities that arise from this and this will help negate any job losses.
HOBART-SYDNEY-BRISBANE SPIRIT
T4T will investigate running a “Spirit of Tasmania” from Hobart to Sydney To Brisbane and return.
This will provide Tasmanian people the ability to travel to Sydney or Brisbane with their vehicle while not having to drive from Melbourne, avoiding the possibility of accidents.
It will allow Tasmanian producers and manufacturers direct access to the International ports of Sydney and Brisbane without having to Trans-Ship in Melbourne. This means that Tasmania will pick up the freight market as opposed to mainland operators and the money will stay in Tasmania.
The reason for running the service from Hobart is to provide interstate tourists with a “cruise like” experience, there is hardly any prettier port in the world than Hobart with Mount Wellington as it’s back drop.
Foreign Ownership of Tasmanian Land
T4T is fundamentally opposed to any foreign ownership of Tasmanian land and will ensure that any land held in foreign ownership will be returned to Tasmanian as soon as possible
