Dear all,
As signatories to the open letter to the Premier published on the launch of the Reconciliation Council last year, I thought you might be interested in an initiative we launched yesterday.
Together with the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre we have launched TV/social media ad campaign in defense of the takayna coast and to call out Premier Will Hodgman’s betrayal of history, reconciliation and his own pledge to reset the relationship with Aboriginal people. Attached is the media release.
You can see the ad here ( https://pozible.com/project/protect-takayna-tarkine-2 ) on a joint Pozible crowdfunder page that has been set up to support and extend the campaign, or on simple You Tube versions embedded in these media articles – Guardian story ( https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2018/feb/04/tasmanian-election-campaign-ad-to-revive-lost-indigenous-language ) – ABC online coverage ( http://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-04/an-advertisement-featuring-the-language-of-the-aboriginal-peopl/9394656 ).
The ad takes on the Premier in palawa kani, and in the words of Heather from the TAC, ‘using our language to defend our heritage from a Premier prepared to put politics ahead of people is a powerful new tool that makes us very proud and we expect it to resonate with wider Tasmania.’
If you have the time and inclination to share the crowdfunder or simply the ad itself to personal and other networks, it would be much appreciated and help boost its exposure.
If you are in Hobart this Friday night (6pm), Wild Island is hosting a one-night-only exhibition of images from the TAC/TWS onCountry collaboration, before the images get distributed to galleries for the election campaign. More information here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1540485885999081/
Cheers and many thanks,
Vica
