• TT-Line should be commended for work on replacement plan
• New vessels have Labor’s full support, will boost tourism industry
• Liberals need to reveal full financial details
Shadow Minister for Infrastructure Shane Broad has commended TT Line for putting Tasmania in a position to replace the two Spirits by 2021.
“Labor’s proud of the fact that we bought the two Spirits that have served Tasmania so well,” Dr Broad said.
“TT Line should be commended for its work on a replacement plan for the vessels and a 2021 delivery date is welcome.
“The new vessels have Labor’s full support and I have no doubt they will take Tasmania’s tourism industry to the next level.
“Now the announcement is made, the Government is obliged to provide more details around the cost of replacing the ships and how it intends to pay for it.
“The Government grabbed $160 million from TT Line to make its budget look better but that’s obviously a long way short of the total replacement cost.
“Without even a ballpark cost, it’s a bit early for the Liberals to be patting themselves on the back for a job well done.
“After all, it’s TT Line’s work over a long period of time that has put Tasmania in this position.”
