• Infrastructure Australia report rejects Liberal takeover of TasWater
• Report highlights the Government’s failure to work with TasWater on infrastructure upgrades
• All three levels of government need to work together
The Government’s spin on the Infrastructure Australia report into water infrastructure is outrageous.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said the report exposes the Liberal Government’s failures and completely rejects their takeover proposal.
“This report is a shocker for the Hodgman Government,” Mr Bacon said.
“It highlights the consequences of their failure to work with TasWater over the past four years and completely undermines their political takeover proposal.
“Infrastructure Australia says a state government takeover “would see the state shift further from best practice, with increased powers for political interference”.
“Labor has been arguing that to tackle the challenges facing TasWater, all three levels of government need to work together in Tasmania’s best interests.
“Unfortunately the Liberals chose to pick a fight with TasWater, instead of working with them and helping them lobby the Federal Government for financial support.
“Infrastructure Australia has confirmed that a political takeover is not the answer to keeping downward pressure on costs for consumers.
“We need all three levels of government working together to invest in infrastructure, so consumers aren’t stung for the cost of upgrades.”
