THE SCIENCE OF SEXUALITY
‘YES BABY, WE WERE BORN THIS WAY – BUT THERE’S MUCH MORE TO IT THAN THAT’
As the Same Sex Marriage vote reaches a significant milestone, a new report on Australia’s Science Channel examines the latest research into the science of sexuality.
No one chooses to be gay – that is beyond doubt as study after study proves. And it is now clear people sit in a much broader spectrum than ever before believed. But there is still plenty for the scientists to disagree on – and plenty more to baffle them. And the more amazing findings are:
SEXUALITY – A BROAD CHURCH
➢ The brains of gay men and straight women are structured in a similar way – and the same is true for lesbians and straight men.
➢ Female relatives of gay men are having many more children than the female relatives of straight men.
➢ The more older brothers you have, the more likely it is you are gay – but why?
➢ If gay men have fewer children that straight ones, why doesn’t the “gay gene” disappear?
➢ Being gay may even be an evolutionary advantage.
➢ As part of the report on Australia’s Science Channel , scientist Hannah Brown discusses the concept of hard-wired sexuality with fellow-scientists and members of the LGBTI+ community. SEE CLIP HERE: https://australiascience.tv/vod/the-science-of-sexuality/
➢ What emerges from the research is the extreme interdisciplinary nature of trying to understand human sexuality and attraction. The factors are many and varied, and it seems clear science needs to accept that people sit in a much broader spectrum than given credit for. Conveniently tidy or stereotypical classifications may not be applicable.
➢ Despite the emotionally charged and personal nature of such research, it is also true that knowledge is power.
➢ The irrefutable evidence that homosexuality is a normally occurring human condition, can only can guide our perceptions and outcomes into the future.
