In the midst of a world-wide, 10 year anniversary tour, dance troupe ‘The Rhythms of Ireland’ dance their way to Hobart’s Theatre Royal this week. I spoke to lead dancer Tom Brosnan about the anniversary and the groups return visit to Tasmania.

Tom reminds me he has been to Tasmania before as part of Celtic Illusion a dance and music exploration of Celtic music and magic

And magic is what Rhythms of Ireland is all about, steeped in the tradition of mythical beings, music that could only be created by gods and goddesses and a fantastic frenzy of dancing.

Tom has special memories of the performance in Tasmania in 2009 because not only was it his first tour as a professional dancer but also because he met his fiancé at that time.
He also has great memories of Tasmania, which he calls picturesque and the friendliness of the people. He hopes for a couple of days to experience some of Tasmania.

This year’s anniversary celebration will bring the best of Irish culture, songs and choreography and a whole new set of fabulous costumes.

Tom has a great love of Irish dancing but knows too how easy it is to burn out after many years of constant work. Tom himself took a break for a while and became a soccer coach before returning to his great love of dance.

He hopes one day to open a studio of Irish dance and ballet with his fiancée.
