• Liberals all talk no action on getting a fair deal for Tasmania
• Hodgman and Hidding haven’t even picked up the phone on Bridgewater Bridge
• No progress on major infrastructure after almost four years
Premier Will Hodgman’s failure to advance major infrastructure projects is on show yet again at Estimates Hearings in Canberra.
Shadow Local Government and Planning Minister Madeleine Ogilvie said the Bridgewater Bridge has not been put on the Commonwealth’s radar.
“The Liberals want Tasmanians to believe they are progressing major infrastructure but it’s clear they are failing to achieve any level of federal-state cooperation,” Ms Ogilvie said.
“There is little hope for major transformative projects like the Bridgewater Bridge and Northern Suburbs Passenger Rail under this do-nothing Government.
“This follows the Liberals failure to advance the case for water and sewerage funding from Infrastructure Australia.
“And discussions around a Hobart City Deal have not proceeded past very preliminary talks.
“Federal Infrastructure Department officials said they simply did not have any solid information about the Bridgewater Bridge from the State Government.
“Clearly there’s been a big breakdown in communication and that clearly means there has been a lot of talk but no action.
“Has Will Hodgman actually ever picked up the phone and attempted to get Malcolm Turnbull on the other end to make some kind of commitment?
“As Premier, he needs to be doing much, much more to fight for Tasmania’s fair share from Canberra.”
