Perhaps Tasmania’s most recognisable street artist, Jamin, will be taking on a very different project this month, working with caution tape to create an intricate mural at the inaugural 2017 WorkSafer Expo.

The unique work, utilising elements synonymous with work health and safety, will be created live over the two day event, and will be designed to promote discussion on health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace.

With experience ranging from Visual Curatorship of Faux Mo, (Mona Foma’s pop up night club) to residencies in Paris, Jamin’s works stretch well beyond the streets of Hobart, but this piece promises to be something completely new for the celebrated local artist.

“When I think of workplace safety, the first image that comes to mind is the classic yellow caution tape, and when I was approached with the concept I knew I had to incorporate this powerful imagery,” said Jamin.

WorkCover Tasmania Board member Steve Walsh said it was important to raise the topic of workplace health and safety in new and innovative ways.

“While street art might not be directly associated with the health and safety of Tasmanian’s, Jamin’s work comes with a powerful message,” said Mr Walsh.

“By creating an artwork that is difficult to interpret until its final revelation, Jamin is demonstrating the very nature of work health and safety procedures.

“The overwhelming message is, vital processes and restrictions are often not taken seriously until an accident occurs, and the true risks are ‘revealed’.”

WorkSafe Tasmania Month runs from 1-31 October 2017 and is part of a nationwide effort to raise awareness of work health, safety and wellbeing as well as reduce work-related injury, illness and deaths.

WorkSafer, the inaugural Work Health Safety & Wellbeing Expo, is a free event held at Salamanca’s Princes Wharf 1 on 23-24 October designed to inspire, educate and equip you to build a safer and healthier workplace.
