 Liberals bizarrely vote against their own position on opening tracks
 Labor is working constructively and will respect the EPBC decision
 Liberals’ crash-through approach has failed

The Liberal Government has sided with the Greens to vote against its own policy to open tracks in the Arthur-Pieman if the Federal Government gives it the green light.

“Labor moved a sensible amendment to bring the Liberals motion in line with reality but the Government bizarrely voted against it,” Labor Member for Braddon Shane Broad said.

“The Liberals have voted with the Greens against their own policy.”

This what the Liberals voted against:

“That the House support the Government’s plan to reopen tracks 501,503 and 601 in the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area, subject to the outcome of the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act process.”

“The Government is in a parallel universe if it doesn’t think the EPBC’s decision is central to the reopening of tracks in the Arthur-Pieman,” Dr Broad said.

“Adam Brooks has his head in the sand on this issues and has broken a major promise to the voters on Braddon.

“While the Liberals are only interested in playing politics, Labor is working constructively to find a way forward.

“State and Federal Labor have released a policy to reinstate the local management committee, recruit more indigenous rangers, and fund better signage and interpretation.
“Our position is clear, Labor will respect the outcome of the EPBC process when it comes to the opening of new tracks.”
