Iconic indie rock band Eskimo Joe hits Hobarts for a show at Federation Concert Hall May 12, 2018 as part of their 21st birthday celebrations, with the full backing of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.
Over the past 21 years, Eskimo Joe has released music to great acclaim in the US, Canada, Europe and Korea. With six studio albums and sales exceeding 750,000 in Australia alone, the band has seen three of its albums debut at Number 1 on the ARIA charts and has racked up an impressive 35 ARIA nominations.
For the first time ever, Eskimo Joe performs massive hits with the TSO including “From the Sea”, “Black Fingernails, Red Wine”, “Foreign Land” and more.
Eskimo Joe member Stu Mcleod said of the band’s orchestral collaboration, “It represents a really amazing point in our career, taking a look back at the last 21 years and selecting our favourite songs to perform in a totally unique setting.”
The TSO’s performance with Eskimo Joe represents another innovative collaboration for the orchestra, which in 2017 alone has seen sold out concerts with vocal star Kate Miller-Heidke, a Dark MOFO collaboration with Norwegian metal band Ulver , an original show with comedy trio Tripod and a sold out October 24 concert with ARIA award-winning and multi-platinum artist Megan Washington.
Eskimo Joe’s February 2018 performances with the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra sold out within days of release.
