Maven Dental Group (MDG), will show its support of unpaid carers across the country with the inaugural Maven Dental Day and the provision of complimentary dental services on Sunday 15th October.

To coincide with National Carers Week (15th – 21st October), Maven Dental Invermay will offer unpaid carers free dental services and will align with the aims of the Week to ensure ‘carers count’.
The unprecedented opportunity will see select Maven Dental practices throw open their doors and donate their time to the estimated 2.7 million unpaid carers nationally who will have the opportunity to register for an appointment with participating local Maven Dental dentists.

General Manager of Marketing for the Maven Dental Group, Sheridan Burke, said the Maven Dental Day campaign was something local Maven Dental practices could really get behind, opening their doors out of regular hours to provide free dental exams, X-rays, teeth cleaning and a range of basic treatments for free.

“Dental care is a basic health essential and something that our clinicians and their staff are well equipped to provide to those who don’t always take time out for themselves,” she said. “At its core, Maven Dental Day is all about giving back to those who give so much.”

“It’s a fact that carers earn less and give of their time to provide an integral service in our communities and we wanted to create an opportunity that supports them in a fundamental way,” said Ms Burke.
“Carers Australia have been highly supportive and we feel strongly that this is a positive way to impact the lives of carers.”

Services provided on Maven Dental Day include free treatment that may include fillings, pain relief, cleaning and basic examination and X-rays.

Complex treatments that require more than one visit cannot be provided on the day, (cosmetic treatments such as tooth whitening and orthodontics are also excluded), but patients will be advised on treatment options for more complex procedures and the government subsidies that may be available to them.

“Maven Dental Day is designed so participating practices can see as many carers as we can schedule safely across the day, which is why an appointment is essential,” said Ms Burke.

CEO of Carers Australia, Ara Cresswell, said unpaid carers often experience financial hardship and social isolation as a result of their caring role, and so any opportunity for them to engage with the community and to be the recipients of important supports and services is most welcome.

“By offering complimentary dentistry services to carers as part of National Carers Week, Maven Dental Group are making a generous offer to Australia’s carers, one that will both provide practical support and also embody the spirit behind National Carers Week, that all carers should be recognised and celebrated,” she said.

“Carers Australia is delighted with Maven Dental Group’s generous involvement in this year’s campaign.”

How to register

Carers can register with participating Maven Dental practices by calling Carers Australia on (02) 6122 9900.

More about National Carers Week

National Carers Week 2017 is a time to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution that Australia’s 2.7 million unpaid carers make to our nation.

1 in 8 Australians provide unpaid care and support to a family member or friend with a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who is frail aged. Carers make an enormous contribution to our communities as well as our national economy and National Carers Week provides all Australians with a chance to show their appreciation.

Each and every week Australia’s unpaid carers spend an incredible 36 million hours caring for family members and friends, the annual replacement value of that care having been estimated by Deloitte Access Economics in 2015 at $60.3 billion.

Australia counts on carers, so let’s show carers how much they count!
