Tasmanian Government Minister Matthew Groom will step down from cabinet and will not contest the next state election.
Mr Groom is currently acting Attorney-General, Minister for Energy, National Parks and several other portfolios.
He said it was a big decision to step down, but he believed it was the right time.
Mr Groom, flanked by his wife Ruth as the announcement was made, said he was very conscious of the impact of a life in politics on his young family.
