Tasmanian union members will join with the Tasmanians United for Marriage Equality campaign as they rally for marriage equality across Tasmania tomorrow.
Unions Tasmania Secretary, Jessica Munday, will join speakers on Parliament Lawns in Hobart.
“Tasmanian union members will stand beside members of the LGBTQI community, their friends and families tomorrow as we intensify the campaign for a “YES” vote in support of marriage equality following the disappointing decision in the High Court yesterday,” Ms Munday said.
Unions Tasmania has condemned the Turnbull Coalition Government for their unnecessary, expensive, non-compulsory and non-binding postal survey that will allow for bigotry and hatred to be directed at LGBTQI members.
“Unions have always fought for equality. We believe in fairness. We stand up to bullying and harassment in our workplaces and in communities.”
“Equality is union business and we are proud to stand with LGBTQI members in their campaign for equal rights to marry in Australia,” Ms Munday said.
The rally will be held on Parliament Lawns in Hobart at noon while an Equality Walk will start from Princes Square in Launceston at 10:45am.
