• A deep low pressure system south of Tasmania is bringing cold temperatures, showers and gusty conditions this week.
• Snow settled to 100m to 200m about the West, the Central Plateau and the far south on Tuesday morning, but will rise to 400m during Tuesday evening.
• The snowline is expected to lift to 1000m during Wednesday, then lower again to around 200m Thursday evening behind a cold front in the afternoon.
• Significant snow depths are likely about the west, Central Plateau and far south over the course of the week which may lead to prolonged road closures.
• Isolated stations in the southeast recorded their coldest night in July 24, 2016. These were 2.2°C at Cape Bruny and Maatsuyker Island, 3.2° at Maria Island and -6.4° on Mt Wellington/kunanyi.
• Many stations have reported a very cold September day, however daily observations will not be finalised until 9am Wednesday.
The following non-marine warnings are currently in place for Tuesday and Wednesday:
• A Road Weather Alert for snow on roads above 200m for Tuesday and Wednesday, mainly in western, central and southern areas, and for black ice Wednesday morning.
• A Frost Warning is current for all Tasmanian agricultural districts.
• A Bushwalkers Alert for western and central forecast districts.
• A Warning for Sheep Graziers for all grazing districts.
