… AN ALL-ORIGINAL SYMPHONIC LOVE LETTER TO GAMING
Comedy trio TRIPOD join the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra for an original program September 12, 2017
Melbourne based comedy trio Tripod will join The TSO for one performance only of their symphonic program This Gaming Life, September 12, 2017 at Federation Concert Hall, an innovative and entertaining show which will have strong appeal for devotees of both comedy and video games.
Described as an ‘all-original symphonic love letter to gaming’, This Gaming Life was originally commissioned for the MSO in collaboration with BAFTA winning composer Austin Wintory – a name very familiar to fans of games such as Journey and Flow – and opened at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall to rave reviews.
Since their breakthrough onto the Melbourne comedy scene in the mid-1990s, comedy trio Tripod have firmly established their reputation for juggling comedy, music and narrative in endless exhilarating combinations which has seen successful Edinburgh Festival appearances, numerous television appearances and musical collaborations with artists including Gotye, Missy Higgins and Eddie Perfect.
Tripod continues to apply an intense level of craft in both comedy and music, and combines both disciplines in a rich and satisfying way – an ability that has cemented the troupe as a much loved cultural fixture in Australia, and a regular booking at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
The TSO’s performance with Tripod represents another innovative collaboration for the orchestra, which in 2017 alone has seen sold out concerts with vocal star Kate Miller-Heidke, a Dark MOFO collaboration with Norwegian metal band Ulver and an October 24 concert with ARIA award-winning and multi-platinum artist Megan Washington.
