Latest CommSec State of the States report highlights positives in Tasmania’s economy
We must make sure that no Tasmanian is left behind
Labor would invest in essential services and critical infrastructure projects
The latest CommSec State of the States report highlights some positive signs for Tasmania’s economy.
Labor Leader Rebecca White said the CommSec report follows an encouraging set of employment figures released last week.
“Labor welcomes the positive signs across Tasmania’s economy,” Ms White said.
“The CommSec report indicates improvements in economic growth, housing finance and retail spending.
“With better economic conditions, we have to make sure that Tasmanians are not left behind.
“That’s why Labor would invest an additional $88 million into health to ease the incredible pressure on our hospital system.
“A stronger economy needs to benefit all Tasmanians. We must invest in improving health outcomes at both an acute and preventative level.
“Labor has committed to employing an additional 20 child safety offices to address the ongoing crisis in our child protection system.
“We must support the people who are trying to keep vulnerable Tasmanian children safe.
“Labor would also invest in crucial infrastructure projects to underpin employment growth in the short and long-term.
“Building six new Child and Family Centres across Tasmania will support communities and improve health and educational outcomes.
“Backing in the Tourism Industry Council’s $41 million infrastructure priority list will create jobs in regional Tasmania and allow for further visitor growth.
“These are the sort of opportunities the Hodgman Government has failed to grab hold of after nearly three and a half years in government.
“Labor’s Economic Direction Statement sets out our priorities for Tasmania, investing in critical services and supporting economic growth.”
