Jobs numbers improve despite lack of economic intervention by government
Labor will build the big infrastructure Liberals are ignoring
Tasmania’s latest jobs figures released today are encouraging despite the Hodgman Government’s failure to embrace the state’s economic opportunities and build major, job-creating infrastructure.
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said Tasmania had seen a significant improvement over the last six months across full-time jobs, total jobs and the participation rate.
“But the turnaround has come despite no significant economic intervention from the Government,” Mr Bacon said.
“Imagine if we had a government that grabbed hold of economic opportunities by properly investing in infrastructure.
“There are projects ready to go right across Tasmania that are waiting for a proactive government.
“That’s why Labor has backed in the Tourism Industry Council’s list of infrastructure priorities.
“We have also committed to fixing three big water and sewerage headaches to unlock hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of investment.
“Launceston’s storm water challenge, the Macquarie Point treatment plant and the issues at Cameron Bay holding back Mona stage two should all be priorities.
“Macquarie Point is a prime example of the Hodgman Government wasting time and missing out on economic opportunities.
“The latest employment figures are great but the Liberal Government can’t take the credit.”
