A loophole allowing employers to underpay their workers’ superannuation entitlements will be closed under legislation being prepared by financial services minister Kelly O’Dwyer.
The Australian reports ($) the new law will prevent employers from reducing the amount of super they pay based on an employee’s voluntary salary sacrifices. An inter-agency working group on superannuation compliance prepared recommendations after former Treasury director Phil Gallagher estimated workers were losing $5.6 billion a year in unpaid super, with young, low-paid, contract and blue-collar workers most likely to lose out …
