The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) are
inviting people to join with them at this vigil on …
SATURDAY 17 JUNE 2017
from 11 a.m. – 12 noon.
at PARLIAMENT HOUSE GARDENS, Hobart
… to show our Government that we want an end to the threat of nuclear war.
The catastrophic consequences of nuclear weapons transcend national borders,
pose grave implications for human survival, the environment, socioeconomic
development, the global economy, food security and for the health of future
generations.
A draft Convention on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons has just been
released, drawn up at the United Nations (UN) in New York at the end of
March.
As final discussions on the treaty begin in New York, across the world people
will be marching or holding vigils on 17th June to show their support as well as
their concern for the current failure of some nations, including Australia, but
USA in particular, to work towards banning nuclear weapons. More than 130
other nations in the UN are now working towards this result.
