Labor will respond to the calls of health professionals and reinstate local hospital leadership
Current administration model is failing Tasmanians
Local leadership will result in better outcomes for patients and their families
A Labor Government will respond to the calls of doctors, nurses and health professionals to put local leadership back into Tasmania’s four major hospitals.
Labor Leader Rebecca White said the administration arrangements introduced by Michael Ferguson have failed.
“We have listened to experts, including the medical staff association and the AMA who have all said that the governance structure for the THS is flawed, dysfunctional and toxic, and is placing the welfare of staff and patients at risk,” Ms White said.
“Labor will re-introduce local leadership at each of the state’s four public hospitals to ensure that operational decision making is made a regional level, rather than centralised in the THS.
“The current THS governance structure does not allow for local decision making and we will move to rectify this in government to give authority to local hospitals to make decisions about their day to day operations.
“Labor continues to support the role delineation framework and the statewide administration of the THS, but agrees with clinicians that delegated authority to allow for management at hospital level is necessary to provide the best outcomes for patients.
“This is about giving the people looking after Tasmanians in our hospitals greater support.
“The professionals in our hospital system are demanding change and Labor will respond to their calls.”
