Labor will oppose the government’s efforts to raise the Medicare levy for all taxpayers, cut university funding and tackle housing affordability.

Speaking in Parliament last night, Opposition Leader Bill Shorten sought to emphasise ideological and political differences between the Coalition budget and Labor policies, declaring to the government: “we will never be you and you will never be us”. Shorten also confirmed Labor’s intent to fully fund the original Gonski education model, close tax loopholes for high-income earners and legislate marriage equality.
