RE: Federal Government announce today on Gonski school funding ( ABC: Malcolm Turnbull announces ‘Gonski 2.0’ schools review, funding boost )

Helen Richardson, AEU Tasmanian President said:

“It’s Groundhog Day – there has already been an exhaustive review into school funding that found our students are denied the resources they need to reach their full potential and the Hodgman Government agrees*.”

“Our students need the full $100m Gonski funding due to them from the Federal Government in the next two years and Will Hodgman needs to fight for it.”

“Every day at school counts and Tasmanian children cannot afford a minute’s delay in the support they need to learn.”

“Classes of 30, schools without literacy programs and year long waits for kids to be referred to speech therapists should be unacceptable to our Premier and the only plan on the table to fix this is Gonski.

“Will Hodgman needs to step up the fight for Tasmania’s full Gonski funding from now until COAG in Hobart when a final deal is to be negotiated.”
