For the first time in 150 years of Tasmanian Football all women who want to play community football are now able to do so with the launch of our SFLW competition next weekend.

Community football has embraced the women’s competition. Our SFLW comp will increase in numbers and strength over the coming years.

Tasmania is a footy loving State and I am honoured to launch on behalf of the clubs that make up our League the first SFLW competition our State has seen.

Let’s be clear about this, it is essential that we have a strong community based women’s competition to put ourselves in the best position for a national AFLW team.

I appreciate the trust placed in me as the first female President of the SFL, to help deliver this ground breaking competition, but the credit for making it happens goes to each of our member club presidents for taking a leadership position, all the players coaches a volunteers.

It is a great credit to all the women at all of our league clubs, who have signed up to play that they will be involved in this historic first competition.

Our first SFLW game next weekend will set the mark for the reinvigoration of community football in Tasmania. We are keen to welcome everyone though our gates – come and cheer the women along.

I would like to warmly repeat the invitation for all men and women who would like to play community football to get on board with the SFL and our clubs.
