 Major industrials potentially facing significant cost increases
 Matthew Groom’s failure to lock in gas contracts could be disastrous
 Government could have secured good deal for Tasmanians businesses

Energy Minister Matthew Groom must respond to the possibility of enormous cost increases for our major industrials.

Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon said the Minister’s handling of gas contracts for Tasmania has been a total failure.

“All Matthew Groom has managed to do is create massive uncertainty,” Mr Bacon said.

“Now our major industrials are facing the possibility of price spikes when it comes to the cost of gas.

“Gas contracts in Tasmania should have been finalised more than a year ago.

“Matthew Groom had the opportunity to lock in a good deal for the state but didn’t because he wanted to sell the Tamar Valley Power Station.

“He effectively endorsed gas price rises of more than 100 per cent when he signed off on the sale.

“This is all part of the fallout from the energy crisis and Matthew Groom’s terrible judgement.

“What did the Minister and Hydro tell the gas pipeline company when they were approached about new contracts in 2015?

“The Government’s mishandling of the energy portfolio has left our largest employers in a precarious position.

“What is Matthew Groom doing to reassure major industrials?”
