A tourism and “wellbeing centre” project on the Tasman Peninsula looks likely to go ahead, almost a decade after its developer, entrepreneur Dick Smith, shelved the proposal due to local opposition.
Remarkable Lodge at Crescent Bay, south of Port Arthur, was approved in 2008 but Dick Smith put it on hold citing years of community opposition and legal battles.
After putting the land on the market, Mr Smith sold it to his son-in-law, James Baillie, six months ago.
Mr Baillie operates eco-lodge business Baillie Lodges and has met with Tasman Council to discuss the proposal, which originally planned for “20 suites, a retreat/wellbeing centre, restaurant and bar, meeting/conference facilities and wilderness experiences” …
