Lacey with his coaches and key training partners after the big title win
Seven years ago Hayden Lacey never dreamed that he would be making a name for himself as a Muay Thai champion. That all changed for the young Tasmanian this year as he took home the Legion Fight Show Junior Middleweight Muay Thai Australia State Title on the weekend.
The 21 year old from Hobart Martial Arts Academy gave an incredible performance for the crowd at the Launceston action stated stadium Elphin Sports Centre on Saturday winning on points.
Lacey said the win didn’t come easy, but was well prepared for his tenacious opponent.
“It was tough competition, my opponent, Jack McCann was very determined; it was a hard fight” he said.
“It was always going to be a massive win if I got it, anyone who is prepared to step in to the ring at this level is going to be well trained and know what they are doing, and Jack certainly did.”
Lacey said that he knew from the first moment he started Muay Thai he loved the sport.
“I started in grade eight, fell in love with the sport and never looked back,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to working with my coach David Leighton to improve my game and see how far I can go in Muay Thai Australia, and do Hobart proud”.
