 Labor outlines the five policy priorities for 2017
 Employment, education, health, infrastructure and traffic congestion on the agenda
 Liberals have started the year without compassion
 Labor would financially support the organisations helping Tasmanians through the Centrelink crisis

Labor Leader Bryan Green has today outlined Labor’s priorities for the year.

With the very real possibility of an election later this year, 2017 looms as a critical year for Tasmanians.

“Labor knows what we’ll be focused on this year,” Mr Green said.

“2017 will be a significant policy year for Labor as we prepare for the next election.

“Labor’s priorities are clear. We want to create meaningful, full-time employment for Tasmanians. We want to make the state healthier by investing in prevention and properly resourcing our hospitals.

“We want to make Tasmania the education state with an increased focus on skills and training by restoring TAFE.

“We want to invest in intergenerational infrastructure, especially in our regions.

“And we want to ease traffic congestion so Tasmanians have more time to spend with the people they love.

“They are Labor’s five big priorities for 2017.

“And in contrast to what we are seeing from the Liberals, we will always treat people with compassion.

“The Centrelink debacle, which has hurt people right across the country, has exposed the lack of fairness from Liberal governments.

“Will Hodgman has done nothing to stand up to his Federal colleagues on behalf of Tasmanians.

“Instead it’s been left to compassionate people in the state’s community service sector to step up and fill the void.

“A Labor government would support the organisations who have gone above and beyond to help Tasmanians in need.

“At the very least, the Liberal Government should reimburse the organisations who have found money in their own tight budgets to set up a ‘fighting fund’.

“Labor would make sure that organisations like TasCOSS, Mission Australia and the Salvation Army were not out of pocket.”
