As we all know Santa is able to make his present deliveries in the dark of night on Christmas Eve, whilst we non-Santas enjoy shopping for gifts for family and friends, and proudly display them under a Christmas tree. The tree, now laden with presents, is often in full view through the window, and shared via those epic Facebook pictures. Such a wonderful scene.

However there are some in our community who view this as their opportunity to take away your family joy by helping themselves to your gifts, consequently destroying the goodwill you have worked so hard to create.

What can you do to avoid this?

State President of Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania, Jan Dunsby, says “We encourage you to make sure that gifts are placed well out of the view of outsiders and that you ensure you take all the security measures you can to protect your property.

Use you home alarm, window and door locks, even if just leaving your home for a short period. Keep those doors locked, even when you are home and check that motion detector lights are in working order”

“If you are going away, ensure that mail and newspapers are stopped or diverted, garden tools are stashed away (they make breaking-in easier for the thief!) and utilise timers on lights inside the house.”

Neighbourhood Watch Tasmania Inc wants everyone to enjoy this festive and holiday season, so let’s do all we can to make this happen for all.
