Major player ARTEC warns Guy Barnett over his forestry plan
Government can’t name one business who wants to log inside the 400,000 hectares
Labor backs access to specialty timbers
The list of key players who oppose the Liberal Government’s forestry policy is growing.
Major timber processor and exporter ARTEC has bluntly told Resources Minister Guy Barnett that it does not support his decision to log in 400,000 hectares of forest previously set aside.
“Guy Barnett’s policy does not have a single friend,” Labor Leader Bryan Green said.
“ARTEC’s strong letter to the Minister should lead to the Government scrapping its policy.
“The Liberals have failed to consult with the industry over what it wants when it comes to market security.
“Labor strongly supports taking single stems of special species timber from inside the 400,000 hectares.
“We want to give our fine craftspeople access to the specialty timbers they need to make iconic, Tasmanian furniture.
“But the Liberals can’t name one player who wants to log within the 400,000 hectares.
“Guy Barnett is a Minister with a deeply flawed policy that no one is prepared to back in.”
