600 Tasmanians lose full-time work in the past month
Participation rate alarmingly low
Will Hodgman must finally become involved
Shadow Treasurer Scott Bacon has expressed alarm over the latest ABS employment figures.
“Will Hodgman can no longer ignore the serious jobs crisis facing Tasmania,” Mr Bacon said.
“In the last month we’ve seen 600 Tasmanians employed full-time lose their jobs.
“We have a significant problem when it comes to both unemployment and underemployment, highlighted by a participation rate of just 59.7%.
“The Government’s hands-off approach is restricting jobs growth and nothing the Liberals have done has increased participation over the last 7 months.
“The ABS has had Tasmania’s participation rate at 59.7% for seven consecutive months.
“The Treasurer himself admits that a participation rate below 60% indicates people have “given up looking for work”.
“Labor has a range of policies that would create employment opportunities almost immediately, as well as setting the state up for the medium and long-term.
“2016 has been a very disappointing year for the Liberal Government when it comes to getting Tasmanians into work and keeping them there.”
