Ross Hart MP, Federal Member for Bass, is inviting local residents in Hadspen, Legana and rural areas to provide feedback about their experience with the National Broadband Network (NBN) as Malcolm Turnbull’s second-rate network goes live in Bass.

Many communities including Launceston, George Town and Scottsdale have been able to access NBN internet plans via Fibre for some time. However; Legana, Hadspen and other areas near Launceston will only be connected with the Turnbull Government’s copper-based Fibre to the Node (FTTN) plan, not Labor’s superior Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) model.

“I’ve been strongly advocating that local residents have access to quality broadband services, but because of decisions taken by this Government there remains a digital divide in Bass. Towns in the North East including Branxholm, Ringarooma, Beechford and Derby were scheduled to have access to Fixed Wireless NBN late last year and are still waiting,” Mr Hart said.

“I am very interested to hear the views of our community on this issue. As the local member I have already raised relevant concerns from many constituents about the NBN with the Turnbull Government and the NBN company.

“When Labor was in Government, Scottsdale was one of the first areas in the country to access superior FTTP broadband. This has been an advantage for residents, as well as local businesses.

“Only Labor understands that real high-speed broadband is essential for jobs, for small businesses, world-class education and health care.

“From areas that are experiencing the Turnbull Government’s flawed FTTN rollout, we know that there have been issues including installation problems, outages and slow speeds. I want to know about your experience with getting connected to NBN and if you’re actually getting the quality services you’re paying for.

“I encourage any residents that may wish to raise an issue, to contact my office on 6334 7033 by email at [email protected] or on my Facebook page to provide further details about your concerns, so I can continue to effectively advocate on this in Parliament,” Mr Hart said.
