… PARENTS AND STUDENTS WHO HAVE BENEFITTED FROM THE PROGRAM
The Tasmanian organisation delivering the Safe Schools program has invited Liberals who oppose the program to meet with teachers, parents and students who have benefitted from it.
Executive Officer of Working It Out, Susan Ditter, issued the invitation in response to a successful motion at yesterday’s State Liberal Conference condemning the program.
Ms Ditter said,
“I was sad to hear the Tasmanian Liberals passed a motion to stop the Safe Schools Coalition here.”
“I invite those against the program to meet with me to find out what Safe Schools Coalition Tasmania actually does and to meet with principals, teachers, parents and students who have benefitted from it.”
“I thank the Education Minister, Jeremy Rockliff, for opposing the motion and for doing all he can to ensure people are informed about what we actually do.”
“He and his Department understand that what we are doing nothing more and nothing less than making schools safer for everyone.”
Currently, over 30 Tasmanian schools are involved with the Safe Schools program at their own initiative. The program focusses on professional development for teachers, skilling them to provide learning environments that are inclusive of all students and are free of bullying and prejudice.
