• Hydro stops paying Basslink facility fee
• Premier and Minister won’t say who signed off on the decision
• More secrecy on energy security from the Minister
The Premier and Energy Minister have both refused to say whether Cabinet signed off on Hydro Tasmania’s decision to cease paying the Basslink facility fee.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said the Government must come clean.
“Did the Minister or Cabinet sign off on Hydro’s decision to stop paying Basslink’s fees?,” Mr Green said.
“We are talking about a critical decision when it comes to energy and communications security for Tasmania.
“Tasmanians have a right to know who approved Hydro’s approach.
“The Minister said he’s been briefed by Hydro, so why did he keep the public in the dark over Hydro’s decision to stop paying its Basslink bill?
“Tasmanians had to find out through the media after Basslink’s parent company updated the stock exchange.
“The Government is arrogant, secretive and refuses to answer straight-forward questions.”
