• Minister admits he was kept in the dark over Hydro’s bonus scheme
• Energy security should be a core responsibility, not a reason for bonus payments
• Groom loses control of his portfolio
Energy Minister Matthew Groom must explain why he was kept in the dark over Hydro’s plan to change the bonus payment scheme for senior executives.
Labor Leader Bryan Green said the incentive system being proposed is unacceptable.
“Maintaining energy security is a core responsibility of Hydro Tasmania, not an outcome worthy of a bonus payment for executives,” Mr Green said.
“Matthew Groom embarrassingly didn’t even know about the plan when asked on Thursday.
“Does he endorse the proposal to link the bonuses of executives to rainfall?
“When Matthew Groom said we should pay for rain, he didn’t tell us it would result in Hydro’s executives being awarded bonuses.
“We’ve got the ridiculous situation where the Minister switched off the Tamar Valley Power Station during a drought but now, during a flood, it’s going to be fired back up.
“Matthew Groom took two years to ruin Tasmania’s energy security reputation, now he doesn’t even know what his GBEs are doing.
“He’s lost control of his portfolio and the business.”
