Canadian country music artist Gord Bamford has never been to Tasmania but that will change soon when he takes part in the ‘This Crazy Life’ tour. Gord is however, familiar with the Australian mainland. In fact Gord is part Australian by virtue of his dad, while his mum is Canadian. After attending school in the Gold Coast Gord returned with his mum to Canada.
Back in Canada even though he dabbled in music it was baseball that was his passion, but fate intervened and an injury to his arm saw him leave competitive baseball. With his mum being a musician it seemed destined Gord make a career in the field. Most of his adult life and music career has played out in Canada.
This may however change when he is introduced to Australian audiences in the ‘This Crazy Life’ tour which canvasses 7 of the freshest artists of new ‘country music’ from three countries, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
It’s a great opportunity to introduce these grass roots success stories and for Gord its a chance to bring his music to an Australian audience, the music that has seen him win many awards and has connected with people over the world.
Gord tells me he is sometimes surprised that songs that he perhaps thought weren’t the conventional hits have struck a chord (pardon the pun) with fans. He loves recording in the studio but equally getting out on the road with his music.
Through music Gord has also struck up a friendship with our own Wolfe Brothers and when we spoke he recounted to me that the night before he had taken the boys out to a game of his beloved baseball in Nashville.
Finally, Gord, says of the upcoming tour he is looking forward to catching up with some childhood favourites, namely vegemite and a meat pie!
