Will Hodgman’s comments in The Mercury today (16 Aug) are welcome but Helen Richardson, AEU Tasmanian Branch President, cautioned against the Premier accepting anything less than full Gonski school funding.
“Premier Will Hodgman is right to reject Malcolm Turnbull’s public school cuts and he must insist that the Federal Government honour the signed Tasmanian Gonski agreement,” said Helen Richardson.
“Will Hodgman must not sell our kids short.”
“Gonski funding is all about ensuring every Tasmanian school is properly resourced to meet the needs of every child.”
“It is a once in a generation opportunity to lift our state’s education standards and to ensure that no Tasmanian child misses out.”
“Anything less than full Gonski funding for Tasmanian schools sells our kids short.”
“Anything less than full Gonski funding will mean thousands of Tassie kids miss out on the education they deserve.”
“Anything less than full Gonski funding means Tasmanian kids are denied the teachers, the individual support in the classroom – the help with literacy and numeracy they need.”
