Galaxy Tablets up for grabs in TasWater poster competition This winter has already given us a good dose of water, water everywhere and now it’s the turn of primary school students across Tasmania to depict their watery experiences on a poster for National Water Week (16-22 October 2016). The theme for this year’s poster competition is Water, Life, Growth. Each year, National Water Week events and promotions across Australia encourage individuals, communities and organisations to work together to build community awareness and understanding around water issues.

As part of TasWater’s National Water Week celebrations, the annual schools poster competition is where students can depict what water means to them.

Kate Beard, Acting Education Coordinator says “TasWater has been very impressed by past entries and looks forward to seeing how the primary school children of Tasmania bring this year’s theme to life in their posters.”

“One of best things about our poster competition is it gives students a fun way to develop ideas about water. Water is a precious resource that is often taken for granted, and the community as a whole needs to value and look after it, even after flooding.” Students can get started during the upcoming holidays, or teachers can get their whole classes involved when Term 3 commences. TasWater Education Officers are available to come and explore aspects of water with class groups if some inspiration is needed. There are four categories for the poster competition; prep, grade one and two, grade three and four, and grade five and six with each category’s first prize winner being presented with a Samsung Galaxy tablet at one of the poster exhibitions during National Water Week in October. And the winner’s school doesn’t miss out either with a water themed book pack being presented to the school library.

The poster competition is now open and students can prepare their posters on an A3 size piece of paper and forward it to TasWater by Monday 12 September. More information about the competition can be found on the TasWater website. www.taswater.com.au/Community—Environment/Poster-Competition
