Sir,
There has been one good thing that has come out of a protracted wait for polling Day and that is the repeated rhetoric coming from all the major parties.
Promises and more promises of spending billions which the country can ill afford.
With most of the promised funds being taken (robbed) from Peter to pay Paul.
I want a Government that will cut Government wastage, be it from ill thought out schemes or ideas that are abandoned after expensive outlay.
Start at the top, make running the Country cheaper, cut the numbers in Parliament, cut the Politicians perks, freeze their wages for 10 years as they are very well paid already.
Bring in a wealth Tax that affects those with Millions, MPS declare all wealth prior to being elected.
I at least think Labor are more realistic talking about a 4 yr. plan rather than 10 years by the Coalition; 10 yrs. is too far out from the immediate effects happing.
Again there is no mention of looking after retirees who survive on the basic pension and Medicare.
Again I would suggest that all retirees petition their local MPs and get assurances to protect or better enhance there lifestyle, when all said and done they have already given their time and tax’s to the Country.
Returning to my earlier comments the long period to Election date has enabled us to inwardly digest what the “pollies” are promising, and that even well rehearsed lines by the Prime minister are being forgotten – to the degree recently on TV he was so flummoxed he asked the interviewer to ask a question as he couldn’t remember “his lines”.
I want to hear more about the wastage being cut, not essentials like health and pensions.
Compare what those on DVA get as against those on a Pension, I see the Military cost 27 Billion a year.
What is it costing to stay in Afghanistan and Iraq?
Cut our aid packages, list what we send to Countries like Indonesia etc.?
Shut the overseas detention camps and return those people who have been in those camps over 18 months.
Let us look after our own people first before trying to look good on the World stage.
Start asking the serious questions.
I am fed up with hearing about Education spending, spend that money on supporting apprenticeships.
Expand in areas in Solar Power, Sea exploration for gas and oil away from the Great Barrier Reef, I am sure there are more areas, building an East west Rail line, Tourism, Building new Dams.
This will create jobs.
I ask all readers to spend the next 4 weeks challenging those who vie to be part of the next Government.
