The inaugural March to End Slaughter in Hobart is being held on Saturday 4 June, in conjunction with marches in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, and in France, Istanbul, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Argentina, Japan, Ireland, England, USA, Canada.

“Marchers will walk from several locations around the city and converge on Parliament Lawns around 12.30pm. This will be a solemn walk in remembrance of all the lives needlessly lost all over the world.” said Chris Simcox, spokesperson for Animals Tasmana.

Meat, dairy and eggs are responsible for the deaths of 520-620 million land animals every year in abattoirs in Australia alone. Many other animals are killed on farms, such as the 12 million unwanted male chicks that are a direct result of the egg industry. Millions more are killed by hunters. Then there are millions more aquatic species killed by the aquaculture industry, and commercial and recreational fishers.

“As children we are often conditioned to think killing other sentient beings is acceptable, but we know it’s not. This killing is unnecessary, and living a vegan lifestyle is really a moral imperative.” said Mr Simcox, “We can lead a healthy life while having minimal impact on the lives of other beings.”

Animals Tasmania is part of this world-wide event calling for respect and understanding of others, and an end to the bloodshed. Killing other sentient beings is violence and takes away their right to live.

“People need to seriously consider adopting a vegan lifestyle.” said Mr Simcox, “It is very easy to be vegan these days and the number of vegans in Tasmania and around the world is expanding rapidly as people realise that they can live well without harming others.”
