Tasmanian Forest Guardians have this morning written to both DPIPWE and Dept of State Growth seeking a moratorium on all logging in coupes on the west coast that contain Leatherwood trees in order to protect the Apiculture industry in Tasmania.
A full assessment of the remaining stands left after the recent bushfires needs to be put in place.
As it stands assessment at the moment is left up to machine operators, who have little or no training in these matters, to determine whether there is significant levels of Leatherwood for Apiarists to use.
