The Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Council (ATDC) is holding bus tours state-wide to give employees outside the alcohol and other drugs sector exposure to services within the sector.

The Hobart based bus tour on Thursday 10 March is the last tour and will showcase Anglicare, Headspace/The Link, The Hobart Clinic, Bethlehem House, Alcohol and Drug Services, Salvation Army Bridge Program, Eureka Club House and the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre.

ATDC CEO Jann Smith said this is a great opportunity for employees from other industries to network, gain an insight to what services are available and generally learn about the sector overall.
“The all-day bus tours visits several facilities with presentations at selected places. Presentations cover topics ranging from referral processes and eligibility criteria to discussions about the types of treatment on offer,” she said.

“People attending the bus tours come from areas as diverse as neighbourhood house workers, youth workers, case managers, occupational therapists and justice workers. The tour participants can see first-hand the organisations they may need to refer their own clients to.

“The bus tours have proved extremely popular and once again filled up as soon as they were advertised. The tours have run for four years and will continue to do so, as they are the type of networking and professional development that workers are looking for.

“Bringing the alcohol and other drugs sector closer to the broader health and human services sectors gives us a chance to orient services from other areas to our industry and allows our member organisations to showcase their own business. One of our stops includes The Hobart Clinic Association, an accredited not-for-profit private organisation that has been looking after the mental health of Tasmanians for over 30 years.”

The Clinic is a purpose-built facility that currently operates twenty seven in-patient beds, a day therapy program and a consulting suite. The Clinic is set on seven acres of landscaped gardens, offering a tranquil environment conducive to optimum recovery.
