The Liberal Government must ensure Tasmania benefits from training opportunities as the NBN continues to be rolled out.
Tesltra has announced 250 technicians will be trained up to work on the infrastructure project.
Shadow Minister for ICT and Innovation Madeleine Ogilvie said Tasmania must be involved.
“Tasmanians must be given the opportunity to be trained up to work on the NBN,” Ms Ogilvie said.
“Not only should Tasmanians be given the chance to gain new skills, but some of the training should be provided here as well.
“The Government should do everything it can to make sure we don’t miss out on this opportunity to create a more skilled workforce.
“The Liberals are starving TAFE of training funding and are instead awarding lucrative contracts to interstate providers.
“Here’s a chance for the Government to prove it can produce a good outcome for Tasmania, let’s hope they don’t let it slip through their fingers.”
