At $484.6 million in October, retail turnover has grown 5.7 per cent under the Hodgman Liberal Government.
Tasmania’s retail revival has stepped up a gear.
Tasmania’s retail turnover growth was the second highest in the nation for October, only just behind Victoria.
All signs are pointing to a bumper Christmas period for our retailers, which will help create jobs and grow the economy.
Growth is being driven by record levels of employment across the State, the booming building and construction sector, the influx of tourists and the sense of confidence and optimism in the community.
But there is a lot more we can do to build on the growing momentum in our economy. The best way to help the retail sector is to create jobs and make sure more Tasmanians have money in their pocket.
That’s why this year’s Budget included a $315 million jobs package and a $1.8 billion infrastructure package.
We are also rolling out programs as part of our long-term Plan that will directly help the retail sector, like our Buy Local campaign and our Local Benefits Test that is helping more Tasmanian businesses win Government tenders.
