The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to cutting red tape to allow businesses to grow and to create jobs.

This week, paintball became legal to be operated in Tasmania.

The Liberal Government’s reforms to the Firearms Act gave us the opportunity to legislate to allow for the activity of paintball.

Until now, Tasmania was the only state or territory in Australia where this sporting activity was not permitted.

Since our reforms were first proposed, there has been good interest in the prospect of paintball, and several potential paintball business operators have shown interest around the State.

The Government wants to ensure that this new activity is enjoyed safely at approved, licenced venues, and we are pleased that from today applications are available for a Certificate of Registration as a Paintball Operator.

Strong requirements exist for applicants to operate a licensed paintball range, including inspections and certifications of the venue.

Many Tasmanians look forward to seeing the first paintball businesses open their doors in the near future, providing not only another fun activity to enjoy in Tasmania’s outdoors for locals and visitors alike, but also employment.
