According to the latest CommSec report, Tasmania is “number one” when it comes to its labour market.
The CommSec report examines how unemployment levels across Australian jurisdictions compared in September 2015 to the 10 year average, and shows Tasmania at the top of the leader board.
This is the latest in a string of information that shows Tasmania is heading in the right direction.
Earlier this month the Australian Bureau of Statistics Labour Force data showed that 7,200 new jobs had been created since we came to Government and the state’s unemployment rate matches the nation’s average.
Last week, ABS Regional Labour Force figures showed all Tasmanians were sharing in the jobs growth, particularly the North-West where more people are employed than ever before.
Today’s figures from CommSec are more good news on the jobs front, showing Tasmania is performing better than any other state.
The report says: “Comparing jobless rates in each state and territory with their respective decade averages, Tasmania is number one.”
CommSec also found that new home construction in Tasmania is booming.
The report says: “In terms of annual growth, Tasmania is strongest with dwelling starts at a 21 year high, up 54 per cent on a year ago.”
The report also shows that Tasmania was the second strongest performer in relation to motor vehicle registrations.
While the economic indicators are clearly shifting to point in the right direction there is still work to be done.
That’s why we are investing $315 million in a jobs package and $1.8 billion in infrastructure so we can continue to strengthen the economy and create more jobs.
