Tas Water took out the coveted Overall Winner award at this year’s prestigious WorkSafe Tasmania Awards, which are now in their twentieth year of celebrating innovation in work health and safety, wellbeing and return to work.

Tas Water’s standout entry in the ‘Best WHS Initiative’ category was a device that eliminates the need for workers to be in the sort of confined and difficult spaces that most of us would not want to be in.

Greg Slore, who works in Tas Water’s Health and Safety Service, was also recognised for his outstanding commitment to safety with a Better Work Tasmanian Award for WHS Leadership.
To top it off, Tas Water also took out the Beyond Compliance category, along with Bennett’s Petroleum Supplies Pty Ltd.

Both Tas Water and Bennett’s award winning entries demonstrated how there are big safety wins for workers and business when integrating safety with a health and wellbeing approach.

For the first time in any Australian WHS awards programs, the Overall Winner, Tas Water, received a prize fund of $5,000 to further develop and promote its initiatives to the broader Tasmanian working community, sharing the benefits of their innovation with more Tasmanian workers and businesses.

Another Special Award for Commitment to WHS Excellence was given to Bell Bay Aluminium. This Special Award recognised Bell Bay Aluminium’s long-term commitment to developing and maintaining a culture that balances innovation with healthy and safe work practices at the business’ core. This has been reflected through its multiple entries and recognition in the Awards Program since 1996.

The WorkSafe Awards once again highlight that everyone, regardless of their business operations and size, can make safety a priority in their workplace.

From micro-businesses to businesses that operate throughout Tasmania and beyond, this year’s winners and finalists showcase that safety is good for business.

These awards, an initiative of WorkSafe Tasmania and the WorkCover Tasmania Board, celebrate Tasmanian businesses and individuals who lead the way in work health and safety.

Congratulations to all the winners and finalists in the 2015 WorkSafe Tasmania Awards.
