Shadow Minister for ICT and Innovation Madeleine Ogilvie said that the Federal Opposition’s announcement of the National Sharing Economy Principles is a positive approach to what is a complicated issue.
“2015 has seen a rise in the presence of sharing economy services,” Ms Ogilvie said.
“It’s refreshing to see Federal Labor come up with a comprehensive response as to how we can adopt and integrate these services into our current economic and social structure.
“I have spoken at great lengths about the benefits of the sharing economy, not just in terms of services, but in terms of its broader application and how it can be used to grow Tasmania’s economy and grow job and tech opportunities.
“The sharing economy isn’t going away; Labor’s approach ensures that new services can co-exist within the current system and will be regulated, safe, and a viable alternative for consumers.
“Welcoming the services of the sharing economy doesn’t mean we are abandoning our current and traditional services. It means we are building an economy where services can co-exist and where competitiveness is encouraged.
“Labor believes the sharing economy must include people who can’t afford to participate and we continue to work to close the digital divide.”
