Shadow Tourism Minister Scott Bacon has called on Liberal Senator Richard Colbeck to use his new position to fight for Cadbury’s visitor centre.

“Just two years ago the Liberals promised Tasmanians a brand new visitor centre, now it’s shutting its doors,” Mr Bacon said.

“As Australia’s new Minister for Tourism, Richard Colbeck should be fighting for the visitor experience at Cadbury to continue beyond December 18.

“After promising the world to Cadbury staff and Tasmania’s tourism sector, the Liberals have an obligation to make amends.

“The Federal Government made it almost impossible for Cadbury to secure $16 million in promised funding by making the company jump through hoop after hoop.

“The Liberals now need to make up for their pathetic handling of the $16 million promise.

“We still haven’t seen one dollar of that money go to supporting Tasmania’s economy.

“Despite today’s news, I’m confident that a private operator could take on the visitor experience at Cadbury but it needs the backing of the Federal Government.

“Labor’s thoughts are with the workers whose jobs are now in jeopardy and their families.”
